What is a “Fashionista”? Are You One?

If you are new to this term, a “fashionista” is what I like to call a fashion addict.  Anyone can be one, maybe even you.  If you Google the word “fashionista,” you will find Merriam Websters' definition of a fashionista as "a designer, promoter, or follower of the latest fashions."  Well, I'd say to qualify as one, you need to have a nose for fashion and crave it practically all of the time.  So, I have come up with a couple of signs that can help you determine if you are a fashionista.

Here we go:  When you are feeling down and need a little pick-me up, do you make your way to your local shop (even if it is closed) to catch a glimpse of a beautiful pair of shoes or dress in the window?  And with just the sight of them you immediately get so cheered up, it's almost as if your problem just disappeared?  Well, then you are most likely a fashionista.  Or if the mere thought of going a whole week and not visiting a shop that carries all the latest styles that you love saddens you, then that is another sign.  What about whenever you hear that your favorite store is having a big sale on Friday, and it's only Monday, do you anticipate it each day with the idea of finding a great bargain from your favorite designer or label?  Another sign.  Or maybe you get your fashion fix by buying all the current fashion magazines and spending some quality time catching up on all the latest fashion trends.  I think if you can relate to at least two of the signs, well then you can call yourself a fashionista

So, now that you have found out that you are one, you can be assured that there are many of us out there.  There is no age limitation to being a fashionista.  So, if you are one, be proud of it.  I know a fashionista sounds similar to a shopaholic, and it is.  I'd say the major difference between the two is that a “fashionista” doesn't necessarily need to shop, they just need to make sure that they are fashion forward, even if it means just becoming aware of the latest trends and styles. While a shopaholic is compelled to constantly make purchases.  I know, for I must admit I am a little of both.  So, if you love those skinny jeans, you can fit into them, and they look good on you, wear them.  Don't let those others I call “anti-fashionista” put you down.  You know the type, the women who think that the current styles are only for the young.  Well, not anymore, times have changed and I think that is great! Women of all ages and sizes can be spotted in various fashion magazines and if they can pull the styles off, why can't you?  So to all you ladies, young, middle, and older, I say be proud of being you and of possibly being a “fashionista”.
