My Blog:

BACK TO SCHOOL

I don't know about you, but my family really enjoyed elementary school and we really don't enjoy middle school much.  In elementary school, parents could work in the classroom, seeing the kids interactions with peers and teachers first hand.  Now, I'm told middle school is a closed campus and I can't even deliver a forgotten lunch or assignment to my child.  I need to leave it in the office and hope he or she realizes that it's missing in time to run to the office between classes and look to see if I've left it there.  Not very friendly!

Also, the kids have gone from potty humor to sexual jokes to down right scary conversations.  Have you noticed that?  It used to be, you could say "BM" and they'd break out in peals of laughter.  Now, they use double entendres that they don't understand, but they laugh anyway, just to look cool.  I think the TV shows, movies, ads and billboards have made them all grow up too fast.  I can't even have automobile magazines in the house without sanitizing them anymore.  I've been a loyal subscriber for 20 years, but within the last several years, the Viagra and male enhancement ads have taken over the back pages where the summary of road test results used to be.  It's awful.  These are full page descriptive ads that I would ignore except little ones are curious and so now, I have to grab each edition and rip out the offensive stuff.  I mean, these aren't even "gentlemen magazines," you know?

Now, the homework has set in with a vengeance.  I hear teachers aren't supposed to assign more than 20 minutes of homework per class, per night.  What planet are those people on?  I've yet to see that.  And with the 7 classes my son takes that's still 2.33 hours of homework per night which, when you factor in recovery time after school, dinner and sleeping, is a lot!

In elementary school, I could commiserate with other moms while I waited for my child to come out of class after a long school day.  Now, I need a website where we can all share our experiences.  So, please respond to this blog on the parenting chat, if you need to vent or add your two cents.  We're all in this together, so let's share out thoughts!

Finding the Right High School

Please forgive me if you are a site visitor from outside Palos Verdes.  For those who live in P.V., and have eighth graders, this is a stressful time during which we have to pick the high school our child will attend in the Fall.  It occurs to me that this is the perfect forum for sharing our knowledge about the different high schools, thereby helping each other make the right choice for our child or children.  So, please, if you have a child that gone through one of the high schools in P.V. or you have questions about the two high schools, please share your knowledge here, ask your questions here and generally let's help each other figure this out!  Just click on the link below to see what's been posted and then respond to a post, post a question, or post an opinion.  It's all anonymous to anyone but a very sophisticated hacker, so you can really say what you feel.  We all really want to know!  Please help us!

View or Add Postings to PV. or Pen Discussion Page Caution:  This site is getting spam postings on all discussion pages.  I haven't figured out a good way to stop it yet.  So, please proceed with caution when viewing postings.  Some are horrible!!! and off topic.
